Before the Rain

45’s

The 45’s are a 5 member unit with the musical mission to blow the audience away. Hence the name. Although vocalist/songwriter Marc Mayers says he welcomes other interpretations of the band’s name. The band came into being around May 2023 where they made their debut performance at Kafe Blue for a charity show. Currently the line up comprises Mayers, Francis Young on guitar,.Kevin McMayo on keyboards, Bobby Sookoo on drums, and Russell Durity on bass. The overall sound of the band is an eclectic blend of New Wave/Punk, and some Reggae.

Marcos Mayers, is a Singer/Songwriter from Trinidad and Tobago, with a career that racks up 25 Years in the Local Music scene. From his early start with Peter Plummer’s Psykik, and as a Founding member of The New Dawn, he then launched his project, the Blues Rock band, Fried Blue Soul, along with Alfred Dookie. The band transition from Blues Rock to New Wave to Electronica, showed the diversity of sound in the unit.  His last project before forming The 45s was a band called Fade to Black, described as a Desert Rock styled Band with American Guitarist Brian Bearg.

Bobby Sookoo, 52, from St James, fell in love with the drums while working as a drum tech over the years. In 2003 he bought a kit and started practicing with a friend who played guitar.Sookoo has spent many years honing his skills in the band room with many, manymusicians one of which was Marc Mayers. His collaborations with Mayers eventually ledto his inclusion in The 45’s.

Francis Young, 62, was born in Trinidad but spent most of his life in Canada. He was greatly influenced by French Canadian rock music, andhis uncles Robert and Anthony Joseph who are multi genre musicians.Young returned to Trinidad about 12 years ago and started going to open mic events. It was during these times he met Mayers and about a year ago got invloved in The 45’s.

Kevin McMayo started playing the piano as a child but it wasn’t til he left high school that he took a deeper interest in it. As he worked at his craft, McMayo would composehis own instrumentals. In 2019 joined Jah Mafia again playing reggae for two years. He met Mayers years ago at events and jam sessions. It was an easy decision to be part of The 45’s when Mayers wanted to form the band.
